The seeds of the Advertising Club Hyderabad were sown as early as 1963-64. Later, the Marketing Club of Hyderabad (in which several Executives from Marketing & Sales, apart from the Advertising Professionals, were members) merged with the Advertising Club.
The Club was dormant for a few years in the Seventies. In the year 1980, Mr.Neelamegham, who had just moved over to Hyderabad from New Delhi as Branch Manager of FD Stewarts, together with Mr. S.K. Khanna, who was instrumental in starting the Marketing Club and had supported the Ad Club in all its activities, took the initiative to revive the activities of Ad Club Hyderabad.
The activities of the Club became noticeable and beneficial to the members and supporters. Through the dedicated efforts of the city's senior advertising professionals, the Ad Club endeavoured to be a facilitator and a forum to create a sustained dialogue among professionals to share their experience and expertise. The Ad Club also played a prominent role in correctly profiling the calibre and contributions of the Advertising and Marketing fraternity of Hyderabad on a National Scale.
The Ad Club of Hyderabad has been fortunate that eminent professionals like the late N.P.Sen, Hassan Askari, D.L.Agarwal, Sarvi Khanna and other doyens of Advertising industry such as D.N. Gupta, P.S. Rao, Late prof. Basheeruddin, Nikhil Sinha, Sudheer Reddy, Joe D'Silva, I. Venkat, R. Neelamegham, Santha K. John, Vijaya Kumar,Ram Kumar Seshu, Anil Kumar, Viswa Mohan and others have steered the club towards playing an effective role in Professional Development.
The Ad Club Hyderabad has been holding several training programmes covering various disciplines such as Media Planning Strategies, Client-Agency relationship, Creative areas and Market Research. Guest Lectures have always brought in eminent personalities in their own fields, and every such session was successfully held with tremendous response from the Members and others.
One of the greatest achievements of Advertising Club of Hyderabad has been its holding the National Convention branded as 'ADSCAN' - an initiative taken largely by Mr. Neelamegham along with Ms Santha K John and Mr I Venkat of course with an effective Organizing Committee drawn from the Executive Committee & other Members of the Club. The first National Convention ADSCAN 89 followed ADSCAN 91 and ADSCAN 93 . All these were a great success with over 400 delegates attending from all parts of the country. The quality of content at these Conventions were so good as to merit repeated sponsorship by large corporate houses and media. A noteworthy mention here is that the proceedings of all these Conventions were documented and circulated among the Delegates and others in the profession thanks to the personal efforts of Mr. Neelamegham. Two more ADSCAN National Conventions were held in the later part of Nineties. All these also helped in saving a large sum over the years and resulted in the Ad Club acquiring its own premises.
Presently Advertising Club Hyderabad is having its own office/library with a mini meeting facility at Begumpet - in the centre of the city. The Club has been holding its annual events like the ADEX Awards to meritorial entries in different creative areas which has been a popular one. Seminars, Lecture meets, Sports events, and various other activities are already programmed by the present Executive Committee that has taken over the management of the club in October 2008. |
